How to overcome Procrastination

Procrastination is the act or habit that keeps us back from what we should be doing, usually because of a distraction that is more favorable or more comfortable.

Some of the behaviors of ardent procrastinators are:
=> Putting things off till last date or later time
=> Carrying out less urgent task before urgent ones
=> Getting distracted before or while doing things
=>Facing things only when they are unavoidable
=> Claiming you haven't got time to do something
=> Not completing the task at all

Ways to deal with Procrastination
1. Identify that you procrastinate - If you're doing one of the points above, then believe that you're a serial procrastinator
2. Work out why you procrastinate - A self-reflection on why you are engaging in the points listed above would be helpful but a greater help would come if you can talk it out with a friend, to learn from their experiences.
3. Write out what needs to be done and break it down - A step-by-step breakdown of your activities will allow you to plan your day to accommodate and achieve your activities.
4. Complete the task - Never leave a task uncompleted even if it requires you setting a deadline.

Tips to help you finish your tasks
- Get rid of distractions
- Give yourself incentives for finishing the task
- Add in breaks at a certain interval especially when your task is boring and/or monotonous
- Get some help if required
- Talk to someone who has recently accomplished the task for inspiration
- Give yourself consequence for not finishing the task
- Announce your intentions to the world so that you can add pressure to yourself.
